Wellness: Thermal Spas in SwitzerlandTraditional Thermal SpasSwitzerland's thermal spas have a century-old tradition both for wellness and medical treatment. While the curative effect of thermal and mineral springs has been put into the foreground during the 19th and early 20th centuries with professional medical staff developing sophisticated therapies for a large number of diseases, the the focus is back on general wellness and wellbeing since the 1980's. Though you may still get specialized high-level medical assistance in all Swiss thermal and mineral spas, the majority of Swiss and foreign guests using them are just going there to feel good. This is particularly true for some alpine spas where you may relax from hiking, biking, mountaineering or skiing and have a look at the alpine scenery right from the pool. Some of Switzerland's thermal spas have been known for more than 2000 years. This is especially true for the flagship Baden [the name means bathing, the Romans called it Aquae Helveticae, i.e. Helvetian Springs].
